Canoe Margaret River & Trek Boranup to Conto Campground 7 km
For breakfast this morning we stroll down to the super cool White Elephant Cafe on Gnarabup beach where visitors and surfers alike stop in for a great coffee and a delicious breaky bun. From there we continue our walk down to the mouth of the Margaret river. This is an easy 2 km walk and takes us past Surfers Point, a famous point break. We need to allow time to hang about here an watch the skilled local surfers catch some waves before meeting our canoeing guide for our trip down the Margaret River.
Today's canoeing departs into the river valley, past cliffs, pioneer and aboriginal sites, by 2-5 seater canoes. As no motor craft are permitted on the river, the healthy native eco system with rare public access, boasts clean, clear water, Australian wildlife, unique forests and tranquil waters.
The Bushtucker lunch is a special treat, not your standard tour lunch! Included is an exotic selection of wild food tastes from all over Western Australia, together with locally made pestos, chutneys, dips and baked breads. Kangaroo, tender and tasty, emu with wild nut pesto, and wild turkey topped with rosella chutney as well as crocodile are all on the menu.
After lunch we paddle back to the river mouth and from then GirlsTrek will drive you further south for a late afternoon trek amongst the outstanding and abundantly beautiful Karri forest around Boranup.
This area was affected by fires in 2020 however nature is springing back and the bird song in the area is spectacular.
Tonight we will have easy dinner in one of the apartments supplied from "The Larder". A mid week meal where Pj's are an accepted attire!

Firstly, Stormflower Vineyard, a certified organic Wilyabrup small batch producer committed to “hand crafting” wine. Vines planted in the 1990s were restored and reinvigorated via sustainable agricultural methods when Stormflower took over in 2007. The idea was to be committed to expressing the region’s natural character through the vines that had spent so many years establishing themselves in that patch of soil.
Next stop, Evans and Tate, formed in 1971 when John Evans & John Tate first planted vines in the Swan Valley. Three years later, they purchased land and planted a vineyard in Wilyabrup, in the heart of Margaret River, which they named Redbrook. In 1987 the Evans & Tate Margaret River Classic (Semillon Sauvignon Blanc) was first released.
Lastly, Voyager Estate, established in 1978, all their wines are 100% estate grown, made and bottled, and reflect the unique qualities of our place in Stevens Valley with its undulating slopes, warm summers and cooling maritime breezes.
Once done with our "sampling" it is time to get serious with a lovely long "seasonal menu' lunch at Leeuwin estate from 2 pm
In James Halliday's words
"Leeuwin Estate is a class act, every facet of its business working with the precision of a Swiss watch. It stands at the very forefront of estate-based, family owned wineries… "
Finishing at 5 pm we will make our way back to the Margaret River Resort at Prevelley and continued festivities at "The Common".

We will take breakfast boxes with us for the 30 minute drive down to Hamelin Bay. A visit to stunning Hamelin Bay is a must-do on any Margaret River holiday schedule.
A vast expanse of bright white sand, turquoise waters filled with marine life, and spectacular coastal cliff walks, there is the chance we will see large stingrays as they come in very close to the shore.
From Hamelin BAy we begin to make our way back to Perth. The drive is 3.5 hours and we will make some stops along the way to make it more relaxed.
Arriving in Perth mid afternoon there will be time to explore the city centre before a celebration dinner out in funky Northbridge.
