GirlsTrek Pack Hacks | Smart Packing Tips for Women Travellers
The Woman Who Can Pack for Anywhere in a Carry-On
There are travellers, and then there are travellers.
You know the type. The ones who arrive at the airport effortlessly chic, somehow managing to look relaxed after a long-haul flight. The ones who never seem to be dragging an oversized suitcase behind them. The ones who can trek through the mountains by day, enjoy a beautiful dinner by night, and still fit everything into a carry-on bag.
For me, that person is Letitia.
A passionate traveller, Letitia is rarely home for long. Whether she's exploring Europe, trekking through remote landscapes, discovering hidden villages or hopping between cities, she has mastered something many of us only dream about:
The art of travelling light.
And somehow, she always looks fabulous doing it.
The Great Packing Mystery
We've all been there.
Standing over an open suitcase. Adding ‘just one more top.’ ’Then another pair of shoes’. Then a jacket ‘just in case.’
Before long, we're paying excess baggage fees and wondering why our suitcase weighs more than we do.
Yet Letitia arrives with one small bag and everything she needs.
So we asked her:
What's the secret?
I Pack for Me, Not for Every Possible Scenario.
This might be the biggest lesson of all.
Many of us pack for imaginary situations that never happen.
The surprise gala dinner. The freak weather event. The outfit crisis. The extra pair of shoes we never wear.
Letitia says she packs for the trip she is actually taking.
Not the one she's invented in her head.
The Carry-On Philosophy
Travelling with less isn't just about convenience.
It's about freedom.
Freedom to move easily through airports.
Freedom to jump on trains.
Freedom to change plans.
Freedom from waiting at baggage carousels.
Freedom from decision fatigue every morning.
When everything in your bag works together, getting dressed becomes effortless.
And when you're travelling, effortless it is an indulgent thing.
Letitia's Top Packing Tips
Tip #1
Never leave home without a plain cotton sarong! It can be your beach cover, scarf, towel, tablecloth, head scarf or even fashioned into a carry bag if needed.
Tip #2
Keep your charging cables and plugs in a small bag and keep it in a highly visible area ensuring you never leave it behind..
Tip #3
Pick travel pieces that can be worn on their own or layered - a long sleeved linen shirt is great worn on its own, open as a jacket or knotted up to change the look of a string dress.
Tip #4
Take a pair of shoes that can be dressed up or down and that don’t take up much room; Verdura fishing net sling back flats are my go to.
Tip #5
Less is more when it comes to bags. I like to be dressed like the locals so you won’t find me wearing a backpack while wandering neighbourhoods, instead you’ll find me wearing a small cross body bag big enough for sunglasses, zip coin purse, airpods, phone, lipstick/balm and collapsible carry bag for on the go grocery purchases.
On a GirlsTrek
At GirlsTrek, we often say that the best adventures begin when you leave a few things behind.
Sometimes that's self-doubt.
Sometimes it's the endless to-do list.
And sometimes it's simply half the contents of your suitcase.
The women who travel best aren't necessarily the ones with the most gear.
They're the ones who know what matters.
The trail.
The experience.
The connection.
The memories.
Everything else is just baggage.
One Last Question
If you could give one piece of packing advice to women heading off on their next GirlsTrek adventure, what would it be?
Letitia: A little planning upfront goes a long way. Pack thoughtfully and keep it light, and you'll spend less time managing your gear and more time enjoying the adventure.
