Cradle Mountain: A Rite of Passage for Every Trekker
Cradle Mountain | GirlsTrek
There are some places in the world that call to the adventurer in all of us - Cradle Mountain is one of them. For generations, this rugged landscape in the heart of Tasmania has been considered an iconic walkers’ trip, a rite of passage for those who truly want to hike.
At GirlsTrek, we believe adventure should balance challenge with indulgence. Our Cradle Mountain Trek is designed for women who want to experience the raw beauty of Tasmania while enjoying the warmth of connection, gourmet dining, and boutique comfort.
What makes this trek so special?
Historic beginnings in Launceston – We start our journey in one of Tasmania’s oldest cities, where heritage buildings whisper stories of merchants and mariners. A local dinner sets the tone for the days ahead.
The Gorge and Beyond – Walking through Cataract Gorge, once sacred to the Palawa people, GirlsTrekkers trace Tasmania’s history of hydropower before enjoying salmon tastings at a family-run farm.
The Iconic Circuit – The full Cradle Mountain circuit (14–16 km, 8 hrs) is the heart of the experience. With steep ascents, alpine ridges, and sweeping views, this is a challenging but achievable trek for women who love to walk.
Moments of Indulgence – After trekking through forests of King Billy Pines, and swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Dove Lake (if you’re game!), we retreat to cosy accommodation, glass of Tasmanian wine in hand, ready to share stories with new friends.
A Perfect Ending – We close the adventure with a long lunch at an iconic winery, celebrating accomplishment, connection, and the joy of indulgence in the wild.
